Santa Barbara shark attack - unprovoked White Shark Attack.The Santa Barbara Independent Shark Attack at Vandenberg Beach Officials at Vandenberg Air Force Base closed Surf, Wall and Minuteman beaches because of an apparent shark attack this morning. Lucas Ransom McKaine a 19-year-old UCSB student was killed in a shark attack today while boogie boarding off Surf Beach on Vandenberg Air Force Base this morning. The beaches will be closed for at least 72 hours after base public affairs officer, Lt. Ann Blodzinski.

The attack happened on SurAccording Santa Maria Times, Lucas McKaine Ransom, was in the water with a friend named Matthew Garcia between 9 and 9:30 AMF Beach. This morning while riding the waves off at Surf Beach, just west of Lompoc. The Independent will post updates as more information becomes available. Unconfirmed reports say that today's victim was an area college student.which is technically part of Vandenberg Air Force Base, but is the primary public access beach Lompoc area - has been the site of several shark sightings in recent years, including one very talked about event in 2008 when a surfer had his board bitten by it, experts say had a great white shark.

Drew Sugars, a spokesman for the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office issued a press release that the county coroner's office was sent to the Surf Beach at 8:50 this morning to a report of a deceased victim of a shark attack. Fish and Game officials are working to identify the type of shark, which was described as 14-20 feet in length. The school will provide advice to the friend present during the attack, and that Ransom other friends and roommates.
