Marathi litterateur and Jnanpith Award winner Govinda Vinayak Karandikar died here Sunday morning, a family member said. He was 92.

Vindā Karandikar, was a well-known Marathi writer. In 2003, he was presented with the Jnanpith Award, which is India’s one of the most prestigious literary awards. He has also received for his literary work some other awards, including Keshavasut Prize, Soviet Land Nehru Literary Award, Kabir Samman, and India’s highest literary award, for lifetime achievement, the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 1996

Karandikar’s body will be kept at his residence in Sahitya Sahwas in Bandra east to enable people to pay their last respects Monday.

‘As per his will, his body will be donated to Sir J.J. Hospital later,’ Uday said.
