Food Inflation Rises Up To 16.55%

There is food inflation rises to 16.55% in the week ended May 22 for the high prices of pulses, fruits and vegetables in New Delhi.

The pace of increase in food prices accelerated from the previous week's annual rise of 16.23 percent, while fuel-price inflation quickened from the previous week's 12.08 percent.



But coffee became cheaper by 5%, while wheat prices eased by a%. Among the non-food raw rubber prices rose by 5% and raw silk and castor with 4% each.

On an annual basis, prices of pulses with 30.84%, 21.12% milk and fruit with 13.74%. Headline inflation for April was 9.59%, slightly down from 9.90% in March, according to preliminary data. Wholesale prices, the most closely watched inflation gauge in India, rose 9.59 percent in April compared with the year before.
