It was 6 November 1963. Laura Bush was when Laura Welch, 17, was driving on Texas roads in the Chevrolet sedan. Laura Bush drove into an intersection on State Highway 349 when she could not stop his car at a stop sign and crashed into a Corvair sedan. The Corvair was driven by 17 year old Michael Douglas Dutton.

It is reported that Douglas fell out of his car, broke his neck and succumbed to his injuries. Laura Bush and a second passenger from the car her Judy Dykes also received injuries and was taken to hospital.
