Dhoni out of IPL

Kolkata: Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been ruled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) action for at least 10 days due to a right elbow injury sustained during the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. Suresh Raina will lead the team in Dhoni’s absence.

Dhoni will certainly miss two matches and may skip two more as a precaution.

Super Kings will play Delhi Daredevils Friday, Kings XI Punjab Sunday, Bangalore Royal Challengers (March 23) and Mumbai Indians (March 25) during this period.

“The nature of the injury is such that he will have to stay off the field for 10 days,” Super Kings official Russel Radhakrishnan told IANS Wednesday.

Chennai Super Kings co-owner Gurunath Meiyappan said Dhoni will miss the first two matches.

Parthiv Patel will keep the wickets in place of Dhoni,” Meiyappan said.

Dhoni, who was hit by a rising delivery from fast bowler Shane Bond Tuesday night, had an X-ray at a private nursing home after the game.

Regardless of the injury, Dhoni played a captain’s knock of 33-ball 66 to rescue his team from a position of worry to get the man of the match award. He put on 109 for an unfinished fourth-wicket stand alongside S. Badrinath to help his team score 164/3. The Knight Riders lost the game by 55 runs after being bundled out for 109 in 19.
