This one caught me by surprise.

The Seattle Seahawks have recently agreed to a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles that sends them Darryl Tapp in exchange for Chris Clemons and a fourth round draft pick.

Tapp signed a one year contract yesterday, in no way does that signal he was staying here for the long term, but teams don’t generally sign a player then immediately deal them the following day.

Clemons certainly fits the bill as an upgrade to the Seahawks pass rush, when he received a decent stretch of playing time with the Raiders in 2007 he notched eight sacks.

Looking at the swap, I don’t think anyone cares about losing Tapp, he was an inconsistent backup at best who showed flashes of being a competent starter; same probably goes for Clemons.

The players are a wash, Tapp has 18 career sacks to Clemons 20, the kicker is the fourth round draft pick, that makes me like this deal muy bueno in a draft being regarded as one of the deepest ever,

Also, the Seahawks lost out on RFA RB Mike Bell, who signed an offer sheet with these same Philadelphia Eagles.

The free agency clock is ticking and this team has far to many needs to be standing pat on an open market with no cap restrictions. After cutting Deon Grant, they are also now in the market to upgrade both Safety positions.

At least this trade shows us the front office isn’t sitting in a smoking circle.
