Hillary Rodham Clinton Provoked By Israel’s Mean Reaction
Concerning on the outcome of the visit of US Vice President Joe Biden to Israel was not only an insult but very unfortunate according to the American Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton who had stirred issue on it.
Quite provoked by the Israel’s reaction on the settlement issue, Clinton stated, "The announcement of the settlement the very same day the vice president was there was insulting ... an unfortunate and difficult moment for everyone.”
This move of building 1,600 housing units in East Jerusalem by Israeli government came just as Washington had brokered indirect talks between the Israelis and Palestinians. In this retaliation to this, the Israeli government mentioned that the announcement was not timed with Biden's visit.
Moreover, Israeli stated it as a bureaucratic mishap by Jerusalem's District Planning and Construction Committee, which did not require approval from the prime minister's office before making the announcement.
In reaction to this plan of Israel, Clinton reacted quite grimly with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where she conveyed "strong objections" to it.
In an online conversation with Netanyahu, the US Secretary Clinton stated this action of the Israel had undermined trust and confidence in the peace process with Palestine according to State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley. Crowley added, "the US considered the announcement a deeply negative signal about Israel's approach to the bilateral relationship and counter to the spirit of the vice president's trip, and to reinforce that this action had undermined trust and confidence in the peace process and in America's interests.”
Even Biden harshly condemned the Israel’s plans to build housing units in East Jerusalem on Tuesday in his visit to the country.
Any new settlement activity in the occupied territories by Israel, the US strongly opposed to it. The Palestinians have demanded a halt to construction as a condition for returning to the negotiating table and have threatened to withdraw from the hard-sought indirect discussions.
Crowley stated, “Clinton made clear that the Israeli government needed to demonstrate not just through words, but through specific actions, that they are committed to this relationship and to the peace process. We accept what Prime Minister Netanyahu has said. By the same token, he is the head of the Israeli government and ultimately is responsible for the actions of that government."
Jointly remain committed to this process, Crowley added, "We jointly remain committed to this process, acknowledging that, obviously, it is a difficult environment given the Israeli statement.”
The US President Barack Obama has stated that his diplomatic team has invested considerably in getting the Israeli-Palestinian peace process back on to the track.
