Govt issues notice to Star Plus over 'Sach Ka Saamna'
The Indian version of "the moment of truth", a U.S. reality TV show, is in danger to go off the air after a government notice said the show was indecent content.
'Sach Ka Saamna "(face the truth), was the subject of heated parliamentary debates this week, with some legislators calling for a ban on the display.
Information and Broadcasting Ministry issued a show cause notice to the Star Plus channel Wednesday was asked to explain why the show should not be taken from the air.
"It has been noticed that the anchor of the program is to seek answers to questions about infidelity, incest and other taboos that are not suitable for unrestricted public exhibition, especially taken in the Indian culture and morality," the message is sent to the Star Plus said.
'Sach Ka Saamna "functions that must answer questions of a personal nature in front of a live audience, and their friends and family to win a sum of 10 million Rupee.
A polygraphic test shows if the answers are true or false. A false answer involves an exit from the show.
The government notice said the problem caused "great embarrassment" not only for the participants and their families, but also for spectators and was not suitable for unrestricted public viewing.
Star Plus channel has been presented to the July 27 to respond to the message.
A spokeswoman for the channel declined to comment on the matter.
'Sach Ka Saamna "which premieres this month, is already one of the most popular programs on Indian television.
"We have a strong reaction to the show, and since launch we have over 4,500 calls from people who want to participate in the show," Vasudha RIA, Vice President, Corporate Communications for Star India, said.
