s have announced that former defensive coordinator Jim Johnson died this afternoon at the age of 68 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Jim Johnson 68, has been struggling for skin cancer treatments in the past year, and died on Tuesday afternoon.

He was survived by his wife Vicky, two children and four grandchildren.
The architect of the Eagles aggressive defense received a great deal of renown for consistently having his unit at or near the top of many defensive categories since he joined coach Andy Reid's staff a decade ago.

He was an exceptional coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, he was brightest defensive coordinators for the NFL’s top defensive minds, and last 22 years he as an assistant coach and joined the staff of Eagles Coach Andy Reid in January 1999.


A veteran of a 22-year NFL coaching career with Arizona, Indianapolis, Seattle and Philadelphia, Johnson played two seasons with the Buffalo Bills after being an All-Conference quarterback at Missouri before embarking on a coaching career.

Members of Johnson's defensive units have been named to 26 Pro Bowls and the team achieved great success by earning seven playoff berths, five trips to the NFC Championship game and one Super Bowl appearance.

Johnson is survived by his wife, Vicky, two children, Scott and Michelle, and four grandchildren, Katie, Justin, Brandon, and Jax.
