Huge blaze destroys resort hotel

A hotel is destroyed and hundreds of people led to safety after a major fire in Blackpoll.

100 firefighters battled flames at the Grand Hotel in Station Road on Monday evening.

More than 100 people were evacuated from 60 flats and a nightclub that fire commanders described the scene as like something from the Blitz ".

Police have closed Station Road and Lytham Road and the hotel is expected to be demolished.

Lancashire Fire and rescue service were called to the area at 2150 BST on Monday.

A fire service spokesman said: "There is a scene of absolute devastation, the hotel's collapse.

And leading people to safety from the club and holiday apartments, other buildings, including inns and hotels were evacuated as a precaution.

Walls collapsed

Fire service spokesman added: "If the fire is the height, it resembled something from the blitz.

"It is not yet clear how the fire started, but we can not rule out arson.

During the event, floor and walls collapsed as firefighters tried to extinguish flames.

Engineers from Blackpoll Council will visit the area later to make a full assessment.

Nobody was injured and the people who took a bed for Palatine Sports Center.
