The first round of the French Open in 2010 went mostly as considered. The top seeds highly developed, and the big names had not much trouble with their opponents.

Andy Roddick of the U.S. beat Jarkko Nieminen 6-2, 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in the first round of French Open held at Roland Garros in Paris. The thrilling tennis match finished with a double fault from Nieminen, who was a bit unsatisfactory for viewers.

The Woman's side had the biggest upset of the tournament so far. Dinara Safina (9) was outed by the 72 NO. in the world, Kimiko Date curved, Japan. I've forever thought that Safina was much overhyped at any rate. The fight went to three sets: 3-6, 6-4, and 7-5.

Rafael Nadal looked very strong and only lost six games total in his 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 win over Gianni Mina.

Henin played in his first Roland Garros since 2007 after her spellings have retired beat Bulgarian Tsvetana Pironkova 6-4, 6-3.

Former world number one Maria Sharapova, the Russian 12 seed, brushed by the 18-year-old colleague Ksenia Pervak to win 6-3, 6-2, while French 13 seed Marion Bartoli won 6-2, 6-3 against Maria Elena Camerin, Italy.

Australia's Hewitt, 28 seed, took his place in the last 64 by defeating Jeremy Chardy, 7-5, 6-0, and 6-4 in a match which ended in a dramatic rain tempest after three days of blazing heat in Paris.
