Beasley on World Cup Squad 2010

A year ago, DaMarcus Beasley football career with the U.S. Men's National Team of survivors who died.

But Fortress Wayne native has made a Lazarus-like resurrection in action during the last three months, and Wednesday afternoon he received the ultimate recognition. For the third time, Beasley player in the world's most famous athletic event, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The U.S. team traveling to South Africa on Sunday to open play in the tournament at 2:30 p.m. June 12 June (ABC) v England.US Coach Bob Bradley named his 23-man roster Wednesday afternoon, and Beasley was one of nine midfielders to make the team.

"It's been a good (training) camp for DaMarcus," Bradley said after Tuesday's show match with the Czech Republic, in East Hartford, Connect "He has shown his teammates again, there is renewed commitment to everything."

Beasley would be one of the veterans on the team, as his 91 league games is the second midfielder Landon Donovan, who one hundred and twenty Beasley the first three World Championships as Donovan and defender Steve Cherundolo's totals.

"We feel that the roster has a good balance between players who have been part of previous World Cup," Bradley said Wednesday, "and some new faces who have shown (that) they belong."

It was Bradley who sent the former South Side Archer into professional exile a year ago. During a battle against a mighty Brazilian team in the Confederations Cup in June last year, Beasley did a serious error when he misplayed a pass, which led to a Brazilian score. He was the bench by Bradley, n ot only for the rest of the match or tournament, but for the next nine months.
