Time Warner Cable Launching NYC Wi-Fi

Time Warner Cable has partnered with Cablevision to offer their customers NYC Road Runner broadband access to "thousands" of free Optimum Wifi locations in Cablevision's service area. In return for New York City on a 10-year extension of its operating contracts cablecos in the city, agreed Cablevision and Time Warner Cable to build Wi-Fi networks in 32 NYC parks. Under the new franchise agreement, the two build a network that will offer Wi-Fi as a public service, free wireless Internet in public libraries.

Time Warner Cable's NYC system is to test an experiment with "TV Everywhere" online viewing of premium content to authorized subscribers. It does not happen often, but it does happen.The contract extension offer, which still must be approved, with any other terms likely to be more heat accepted.Now, they have to pay customers if technicians are late or miss a scheduled appointment.

On the altruistic side, accepted cablecos to provide more than 30 million dollars in new communications infrastructure upgrades to the city. Both will enhance public service programming by increasing the number of Public, Educational and Government channels available on their systems. TWC in the meantime will create 40 community broadband centers in local neighborhoods, while Cablevision will work with the Department of Education to establish school-based media centers.
