The day was established by the UN Statistics Division and will facilitate the work of many statisticians around the world, working in different environments, cultures and domains. World Statistics Day is celebrated tomorrow, highlighting the importance of Statistics New Zealand data collection and analysis, says.The Statistics Minister Maurice Williamson three keywords chosen to highlight the WSD's service, professionalism and integrity. Evening to mark the first UN-mandated World Statistics Day Council and Statistics New Zealand will release the latest New Zealand Official Yearbook at a ceremony in the Beehive.

OECD is also celebrating World Statistics Day, centering around a day "World Statistics Day Interactive Session held at the OECD and chaired by Pier Carlo Padoan, Deputy Secretary General. "The government uses official statistics to make decisions about where and how to invest in public services. Statistics also help measure the success of these decisions." They also record our past and tells the story of our country, "said Williamson." As more data become available more innovative ideas - and not just from the public - will be generated, "Williamson says.
