Mother Nature lent a hand Saturday to make centenary in honor of Polk County's 1909 courthouse historically accurate.

Rain, just as it did in June 1909, while thousands celebrated the opening of the silver-domed, white-columned building in downtown Bartow.

Rain began falling just before 11 am, but it alone is not enough to keep people from lining up for free barbecue lunch, cooked up Bill Mills and his County Seat Catering crew.

Although Saturday's barbecue will not provide the "beef, mutton, pork and chicken meat... Roasted potatoes and other vegetables, salads, cakes, pies, pickles, coffee, fruit, etc., move up," according to the notification, the Tampa Tribune in 1909, 2009, the meal was over the filling, visitors said.
