According to the group's Facebook page, the event was organized by the Canadian teen Brittany McMillan and the color purple chosen because it represents the spirit of LGBTQ flag. And awareness was raised about The Trevor Project, an online source of advice and encouragement, including suicide resources.ut LGBT youth could use a little more overt support! A Facebook page has been created to encourage everyone to WEAR PURPLE, October 20th! If you love to live on the internet, which many of us do these days, and you do not think anyone in the "real world" is going to see if you are wearing purple or not, you can dress up your Twitter and Facebook in purple too.

D. October 20, 2010, we will have purple in honor of the 6 gays boys who committed suicide in the past few weeks / months because of homophobic abuse in their homes and their schools. Remember these lives, we have tragically lost, and show your solidarity with those still struggling. "Go Purple" today!
