Eileen Iver and immigrant Soul kick of 2009 Shenandoah Valley Music Festival Eileen Iver, the woman who defines the Celtic fiddler for many Americans, returning to the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival with the band immigrant Soul this month.
Her performance is scheduled for July 17 at 8 pm The Music Festival concerts are held in Orkney Springs, Va., in the light of changing Mont Camp and Conference Center.
Ms. Iver grew up in Bronx, New York as the daughter of Irish immigrants. She has played violin since she was eight years old and was a founder of the band protect ladies, the Celtic festival scene that shocked last summer. She was also the musical star of the now iconic show River Dance.
For nearly two decades, Eileen Iver has changed the way people think about the Celtic fiddle. She is a great innovator. It may have been her experiences growing up in very different communities in the Bronx, which has led to their unique sound. A nine-time All-Ireland Champion fiddle, she and her immigrant background Soul, is best known for his musical styling.
Her Celtic melodies are infused with Latin, jazz, Caribbean and World Music variants. This led to a Boston Globe opinion of her as "a pretty inventive musician.
Band, Soul immigrant has the deep soulful vocal by Tommy McDonnell, a former member of the Original Blues Brothers Band and several other internationally known Celtic and world music performers.
On the accordion, it's Buddy Connolly, a three-time All Ireland champion on the instrument. Greg Anderson is a multi-instrumentalists and producers who have worked in many musical genres, and add diversity to the group. Bass guitarist Leo Traverse is a fundamental and current faculty member of the Bass Collective in New York City. He has knowledge of a wide range of musical genres, making him one of the most versatile bass player in the industry.
This year is a special milestone for Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, "says CEO Dennis Lynch, the 30 year anniversary for the annual Fairfax Symphony Orchestra concerts at the festival." It is such a mark the anniversary, both for the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra and Music Festival has grown and evolved much since then. They were frankly a little more than a very serious, very important group of part-time musicians. Now they are completely professional, and only an outstanding orchestra and we have been blessed to have this 30-year relationship with them.
