The history of Hell

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

On Aug 17 at 8pm ET History Channel is premiering a documentary called the Gates of Hell. I couldn’t find a whole lot about it expect a couple of quick write ups and some commercials while I was watching Pawn Stars tonight. My guess is a group of explorers will go in search of the Gates of Hell. What they will find? Probably just some spooky camera shots but it could be some interesting history behind these places. According to the preview from the History Channel they will also explore the history of Hell. I took a “History of the Devil” course in college and it is fascinating how the Devil has evolved over time into what he is today, which would lead me to believe that the history of Hell should be equally interesting. Again this is probably more educational than anything else but it looked cool and I am sure some people here at GT would enjoy the show. I will do a full review on the show after I watch it and post it up later this week.

The Gates of Hell on History channel last night, Aug 17. The feature looked into entrances into hell by studying the volcano locations. History Channel writes about the Gates of Hell:“There are six places on Earth believed to be actual entrances into Hell. They include a volcano in Iceland, a cave in the jungles of Central America, and a lake of fire in Africa. According to ancient myth and Christian legend, each is a passage to a terrifying underworld for the damned. The other day I wrote a piece called Ramadan Kareem about the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan which began on August 11th, just a few days ago. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and it moves around the solar based Gregorian calendar a little bit each year until it begins a new cycle again every thirty-three years.

The seventh month of the Chinese lunar calendar began at almost the same time as the start of Ramadan. This Chinese month is called the "Ghost Month" and the highlight is on the 15th day of the lunar month which this year is Tuesday, August 24 on the Gregorian calendar। On that day the Chinese will celebrate a special festival called the "Hungry Ghost Festival" during which which all spirits and ghosts from the nether world are allowed to roam the land once again in search for food to appease their hunger. Mexicans on the Day of the Dead here in in Mexico, the living Chinese relatives leave offerings of food and other items for the spirits their dearly departed. The First Baptist Church will present the all-new live drama "Last Chance" at 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in RINCON. The drama is performed with members of the congregation as cast members who do stage drama simultaneously with video on large screens, telling the story of a Christian grandfather and his family over a period of 20 years.
