BlackBerry Ban in India with 60-Day Security Test
In India, it was a ban BlackBerry service, which is expected to begin on Tuesday, deferred until 60 days safety tests. BlackBerry maker Research in Motion has been in talks with Indian authorities in recent weeks. A ban, if adopted, will have major consequences in India, one of the fastest growing telecom markets in the world.
The loss for RIM is potentially enormous in India. India's Ministry of Internal Affairs sent a brief, cryptic statement on its Web site Monday said that the BlackBerry maker agreed to "certain proposals for legal access to law enforcement." India's ministry of telecommunications has been said that "explorer" was to secure the local BlackBerry Service only through a server in India. India was shaken by suspected Pakistani militants attacked Mumbai in November 2008, leaving more than 160 people died.
United Arab Emirates has also threatened RIM with a shutdown of services; access to encrypted information is not given. Ministry of Home Affairs, who want real-time access to encrypted corporate email and instant messages, said in a statement it would consider RIM security proposals in the next 60 days after the Department of Telecommunications studies the possibility of routing BlackBerry services via a server in India.
