Garmin Nuvi Recall Issued for GPS Devices

Garmin GPS manufacturer recalling some 1.25 million Nuvi personal navigation devices for detecting potential problems with overheating in some units, the company announced Wednesday. Once there, enter the serial number of your device. If your device has a Nuvi PCB design and a battery of a certain range of data, you will receive instructions on returning the unit free of charge. The company is aware of fewer than 10 units Nuvi who have experienced overheating problems.
Garmin said "the interaction between these factors can, in rare cases, increase the possibility of overheating, which could cause a fire hazard." Garmin will replace the battery free. Approximately 796 000 Nuvi units were sold in the U.S. and less than ten cases worldwide have been certified by the company. If a navigation device with somebody in a revocation list so they can send it back to the company for repair.

Producers were lucky the fire did not damage to property or life. Garmin says it has identified the problem with fewer than 10 cases, none of which led to "significant property damage" or harm. Garmin says it will replace the battery and insert a spacer on top of the battery by the side of the PCB before returning the device to affected customers free of charge.
