Ken Mehlman, who headed the Republican National Committee between 2005 and 2007, have come out in an interview with The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder. Mehlman came to this conclusion about his identity recently. The process has been something that made me a happier and better person. Mehlman's leading positions in the GOP came at a time when the party was stepping up its anti-gays Such activities as the distribution in West Virginia in 2006 by the literature linking homosexuality atheism.

He decided to answer a reporter questions, he said, for now in private life, he wants to be an advocate for gays marriage and expected that questions would be asked about their participation in a late-September fundraiser for the American Foundation for equal rights (Afer), the group that supported the legal challenge to the California ballot initiative against gay marriage, Proposition 8

As Marc Ambinder reported Wednesday, Ken Mehlman most powerful Republican in history to identify themselves as homosexual. Like many other gays and lesbians, Mehlman took it necessary to lie about their orientation. He would never have been leader of the Republican National Committee or George W. Bush 's campaign manager in 2004. He is now vice president of KKR, a private equity company.
