SC expresses concern over rise in food prices

The Supreme Court today expressed concern over rising prices for food due to the disappointment of the Monsoon, which affect the common man.

It called on the government and authorities to do more for all possible financial, organizational and technological help to the government's expert committee to suggest measures to overcome the water crisis in the country.

"A horrible situation has arisen due to failure of Monsoon in the country. Prices of common people's food like dal up. The work must be done in a spirit of devoted duty," a bench comprising Justice Markandeya Katju and AK Ganguly observed.

Bench was hearing a PIL involving water crisis in the country.

It is also reviewing the report submitted by the committee chaired by the Science and Technology Secretary T Ramasamy.
